You’re working from home.

The kids are at home learning remotely.

Your favorite Netflix show is on in the background.

You spend nearly every waking hour fighting the desire to nap.

Despite the distractions, you and your team can still be productive while working from home.

But the key to success isn’t simply sticking to the grind and burying your nose in your work. For high-yielding results, try these 3 tips:

1.      Create a space conducive to working

Investing in a workspace that fits your personal needs AND comforts can spell wonders for your productivity.

What kind of space brings you joy? Natural lighting? Cozy spaces? Or do you prefer a more professional atmosphere?

What if you’re responsible for a team? Make sure they have the materials and equipment they need. For example, you may want to invest in standing desks, ergonomic chairs, or adjustable computer stands to ease physical tension your employees experience while working at a desk. When your team has a comfortable space designated for work, they will no doubt be more productive.

2.      Do Not Disturb

Avoid constantly Slacking or emailing your teammates for updates. The time they spend typing up a response to you could be better used actually working on the task you asked them to do! Show them that you trust them. As strange as it sounds, the more autonomous your team is, the more cohesive you’ll be!

Furthermore, respect the “Do Not Disturb” features in your intra-office communication programs, like Microsoft Teams and Slack. If your team members are busy, let them work! Interrupting them could likely impede their ability to stay on task.

3.      Avoid Pre-crastination

From the fear of letting emails and Slacks pile up, you may be tempted to respond to every message as soon as it comes your way. But don’t! Pre-crastination can be even worse than procrastination. By instantly replying to your clients and coworkers, you’re spending less time focusing on major tasks on your to-do list.

Instead, designate specific time increments to respond to emails and instant messages. For instance, you may find it beneficial to spend 30 minutes at the beginning, middle, and end of each day to read and reply to emails and messages from your clients and coworkers.

As working from home becomes the new norm, we will hopefully all become experts at being productive in a usually unproductive environment.
